About Treepai
What we’re working on
Treepai is an AI lab building specialized language models, each meant to do a specific task very well. Our goal is models that are cheap to train, cheap to run, and built on documented data with clear provenance. We’re in the research phase, and nothing is available yet.
Where the name comes from
A treepie is a long-tailed bird of South and Southeast Asia, a member of the crow and magpie family. Its scientific name, Dendrocitta, means “tree magpie”.
Crows and magpies are among the most intelligent animals known. They use tools, work through multi-step puzzles and recognize individual faces. Treepies are resourceful generalists that are also good at very specific jobs: the rufous treepie has been seen picking ticks off deer.
That mix of broad intelligence and focused skill is what we’re aiming for. The spelling ends in “AI”, and trees are an old idea in the field too, from decision trees to tree search.
